Day two with Claire had a few firsts that were amazing, her first smile with us and her first giggles! But it was also a lot harder on her, which I had expected. She cried off and on the entire day-we had to stay in the same place in our room and if we moved at all she would start to cry. What's hard is we don't know why she is sad. She could be grieving, or it could have been because she was really gassy, or hungry?? We just don't know! We worked through that and eventually she got a little bit happier and played with us.
Her first smiles with us while playing with the hat with mommy and daddy!
I'm happier Mommy! We met our guide in the morning and went back to where we initially met Claire. There we were interviewed by a few different people and were officially named as Claire's parents! Here is where we met Claire for the first time (this seat)
Why are you always behind that camera mommy?
It's offical, she's our daughter!!!
Not the best picture of us but this is the couple that we met on the train going from HK to GZ. We are so thankful to have met them here!
After we did the adoption proceedings we went to have her medical exam. As you can tell by how dark it is, we were the only ones there! That made it so nice because sometimes there is a huge wait here, but we got in and out!
Had to post a pic of the squatty potty at the medical exam. Those are fun to use! (not really :)) Not the best smell either.Ryan was tickling her while waiting for the exam and we got some really cute giggles!
She was such a trooper during the exam. Cried a bit when he was pushing on her tummy but that's it!
The ENT looked in her mouth and discovered that only her lip is cleft and the alveolar ridge (gum line), not her palate! This means a much less extensive surgery and hopefully an easier time with speech! Yippee!
When we got back to the hotel she was a little sad so we went outside to visit the pretty little pond at our hotel.
Serious little girl!
Our night was pretty difficult, she did NOT want to be layed down in her crib, she only wanted to sleep on me! So we woke up I'm sure at least 20 times throughout the night. Fun times. But I'm glad at least she wants me and I can comfort her! It's common for children who are adopted to not want their adoptive parents at all and for them to shun them/push them away. So I'm thankful she's letting us comfort her, I think it will be great for our relationship in the long run. Also we hadn't gotten her to drink a full bottle the entire day so maybe she was hungry at night? We're praying tomorrow night goes better! Goodnight from GZ!

Such precious pictures! I'm so glad she is letting you comfort her, she looks completely comfortable in both of your arms :) Praying Day 3 has even more firsts! Giggles are the best!
How pretty she looks in her outfit! What great news about her lip too.
She is just about the sweetest baby I have ever seen! She reminds me so much of Elizabeth as a baby - serious, taking everything in. I'm sorry you were all up so much during the night - but I'm so glad that she is letting you and Ryan do the comforting. You should be sleeping right now - I'll be praying that you all get a lot more sleep tonight!
Okay, so I tried to comment the other day and the whole thing got erased, so here goes! Oh my goodness, she is so beautiful and you both look so happy! It's so wonderful to see her in your arms! We'll be praying for continued comfort from you and a great bonding that will happen over the trip. Can't wait to see her soon! We had fun with Jackson yesterday, he seems to be doing great with you all gone (he misses you of course but was the same old J) and we talked about seeing his sister Claire in a week! So happy for you all!
Thanks for the update! So glad that she is letting you and Ryan comfort her - she is so adorable! We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers!
I love Claire updates! And I love to see that smile and know that she is giggling with you. I love the picture of her in Ryan's arms during the paperwork and the last one of you two. Praying for all of you and hoping tonight is better. (or last night now...)
